Shafer Gin at Baileyboro

Baileyboro, Bailey County, Texas

Constructed in 1948, the Shafer Gin several miles west of Baileyboro reminds visitors of the once lucrative cotton industry in central and southern Bailey County. Lewis Shafer, a well-known and successful ginner with experience dating to 1922, operated the gin from 1948 through 1977. The Nickels family purchased the gin in 1977 and continued to operate it for several years. The gin remains largely intact with intact corrugated metal and a sound structure.
